Who We Are
We are a coalition of individuals and pro-democracy organizations dedicated to resisting the current administration’s policies through strategic direct action. Based in Monterey County, we serve as a hub for both local and virtual activism, empowering our community to take a stand for democratic values.

Our goal is to amplify the reach of grassroots events and provide citizens with the tools to resist regressive decisions. Whether in person or online, we mobilize to ensure our collective voice is heard.
Our Commitment to Nonviolence
To maintain the integrity and safety of our movement, all members and participants adhere to a strict code of conduct:
Nonviolent Resistance: We believe that lasting change is built through peace. Violence is never the solution.
De-escalation: We act lawfully and strive to de-escalate potential confrontations with those who oppose our values.
Weapon-Free Events: To ensure a safe environment for all, weapons of any kind—including those legally permitted—are strictly prohibited at our events.

The City of Monterey has released this statement in response to the complex issue related to federal funding and the requirement to include the hateful anti-trans language based on the anti-DEI executive order. We can unite together and speak out against the source of this egregious order and the Trump administration.
NOTE: The Commission voted to remove the transphobic language.
STATEMENT ON DRAFT CDBG ANNUAL ACTION PLAN

Monterey, Calif. – The City of Monterey understands that references to Executive Order 14168 in the Draft Annual Action Plan have raised concerns from members of the community. The City remains firmly committed to serving all residents with dignity, fairness, and respect. Our local programs and services are provided without discrimination, and we continue working to ensure that everyone in our community can access them safely and equitably.
The Annual Action Plan is the City’s required application to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds. It outlines how we invest in affordable housing, homelessness prevention, accessibility improvements, and neighborhood services for low and moderate-income households.
The language in the plan reflects current federal grant conditions tied to acceptance of critical federal HUD funds. If the City removes or declines to acknowledge federally required clauses, HUD may find the plan noncompliant. That could put at risk our eligibility for federal funding, including CDBG dollars that support local housing and community programs. Losing these funds would have immediate, negative impacts on residents who rely on affordable housing, homelessness prevention, Americans Disability Act (ADA) improvements, and neighborhood services. The proposed Annual Action Plan projects a total estimated funding of up to $1.47 million in fiscal year 2026-27 alone. No other alternative funding is available to meet these community needs, which increases the availability of affordable housing and reduces homelessness.
“While the clause governs how federal grant funds may be used, it does not change our local commitment to inclusive service delivery or who we serve. We are actively coordinating with HUD to ensure we meet federal requirements while upholding Monterey’s values of inclusion and nondiscrimination,” said City Manager Dante Hall.
We welcome public input as the plan moves through the Planning Commission and City Council processes to consider the Draft Annual Action Plan. Dates and details are posted at monterey.gov/housing.
